Tigers Finish 4th @ 41 Team EIU Invite
Led by top performances from the Cothern Brothers and Holden Hough, Olney landed a 4th place finish at EIU’s annual Indoor Invite. 41 teams competed in total.
Ayden Cothern busted his own school record in the 60m on his way to a first place finish with a 7.04, good for 4th in Class 2A as of Sunday. He also netted a 3rd place finish in the 200m, setting a new best of 23.32 (also good for #4 in Class 2A & #2 indoors for the Tigers since 2011).
Little brother Gavyn Cothern landed the other 1st place finish for the Tigers, with a Long Jump of 8.06m (roughly 19’11.25”). That’s good for #12 in Class 2A, #2 indoors for the Tigers since 2011, and the best indoor jump for a Tiger Freshman in that span.
Senior Holden Hough showed he was ready to roll in his first meet, finishing 2nd in the 3200m with a 10:07 - good for #7 in Class 2A and #1 indoors since 2011.
More Highlights:
Brody Runyon set a new PR in the 60m with a 7.56. He also earned 12th in the Triple Jump despite scratching his last two attempts due to back pain.
Saul Jones just missed the top 10 in the 400m with a new indoor best of 56.28… a gutsy race after a struggle and DNF in the 60m Hurdles (he’ll be back).
Kadyn Cooley ran his fastest 800m ever, indoors or out, winning his heat with a 2:31
Ruger Stevens also set an all-time best for himself in the 1600m, dropping almost a half minute from the previous week!
Senior Maddox Dorn was a few inches off his best throw from last week, but that’s actually a pretty big positive - he moved from sliding to spinning in just the last few days. Maddox is a warrior, plain and simple.
Our young and inexperienced 4x2 team ran extremely well, finishing 23rd overall. They were led by Senior Dawson Brown, who ran a 24.5 split. He has looked absolutely outstanding in his first week back from basketball. Ryan Kirby also ran fantastic in his first ever indoor meet, turning in a 25.9. In their second indoor meet ever, Caleb Mora and Brayden Beard ran great and repped us very well.
Again, we have an outstanding group of young people… they were great teammates all day and made Olney proud.
Next week, the Tigers start to play with a bit more of a full deck, gaining roughly a half dozen kids back from winter sports. We head to MTZ for their Apollo+ Invitational. More details to come on that soon.
